• Hello World!

Hello! My name is Eric VanDegrift, but I go by “Vandy”.

I am a technical writer from the Bay Area, California. Having a background in both creative writing and IT Support, I have merged my skill sets to become somewhat of a swiss army knife of tech.

My diverse array of skills have allowed me to develop and maintain strong relationships with SMEs in engineering, as well as with area managers for companies such as MoneyMentor, Applied Materials, and Apple.

    Why Choose My Writing?

I believe documentation should be well-organized, accessible, and appealing to the reader. In my work, I’ve treated all documentation as product marketing regardless of its intended audience.

The reason I do this is because everyone wants to feel like they can grasp any concept.

A Technical Writer’s purpose is to make all information easily accessible and understandable, in my opinion.

Quality documentation builds buy-in from the ground up. If your internal documentation is clear and engaging, you begin a snowball effect for creating great owners manuals, SOP’s, and an even better product. This is what I call the “Ground Up Approach”.

A collection of my most recent projects

This Power Panel Document is an example of my ability to receive bare-bones notes and make great a great SOP out of it. The information was provided through Oregon State University.

The mock iPad owners manual is and a document I created to distribute to folks who were new to the iPadOS landscape after Apple’s iOS 13 update. Accessibility is the name of my game.

I thought of a great add/how-to for Lowe’s and their paint department after seeing a video that went in-depth on painting bare wood.
